Day 3: Santorini

Our original plan was to explore Fira (the capital of Santorini) and Akrotiri (the site of Santorini’s most famous Minoan ruins and Red Beach), but Kathy developed a bad cold so we decided to stay at the hotel and relax instead. We had a great breakfast on our veranda (included in the cost of the hotel) of French toast, yogurt with honey and fruit, freshly squeezed OJ and a basket of croissants and other breads. Delicious! After breakfast, we fell back asleep and awoke at 1:30PM. I don’t remember ever doing that in my life.

We had lunch at a small place we found in Oia, munching on a great Greek salad (interestingly, Greek salads in Greece don’t have lettuce..only tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, olives, capers, and a big block of feta cheese) and a margarita pizza (the crust was a bit thicker than I like, but it wasn’t bad).

After lunch, we spent a few hours relaxing on the veranda and taking the occasional dip in the pool. Kathy read her book and took another nap. She also took a walk and found the dress she wanted.

Around 7PM, we headed for the northern end of town to finally see the Santorini sunset. We found a nice bar/pool lounge and had a couple of beers as we watched the spectacular sunset.

We had dinner at Papagalos, a place I found on the internet. Kathy had an open faced chicken gyro and I had grilled pork chops. Both dishes were ok, but we didn’t fully enjoy it. Neither of our stomachs were in great shape for some reason.

Back at the hotel I flipped around the TV but basically had two options, CNN and some channel showing Project Runway! I heard enough of the death of Ted Kennedy (so sad) so I watched Project Runway (the Greeks must love this show because it seems to be on all the time).
